He Lifted Me

The doctrine of election, though misunderstood by many, is one of the most precious truths that we can sing about. Our Lord called us long before we heard - before our heart was warmed even slightly to the things of God. May we celebrate the fact that God lifted us according to the kind intention of His will (Ephesians 1:5). Truly we were dead in our trespasses and sins (Ephesians 2:1) and needed God to lift us from our hopeless condition.

Verse 1:
In loving-kindness Jesus came
My soul in mercy to reclaim;
And from the depths of sin and shame
By grace He lifted me.

From sinking sand He lifted me,
With tender hand He lifted me;
From deepest night to glorious light,
O, praise His name, He lifted me!

Verse 2:
He called me long before I heard,
Before my sinful heart was stirred;
But when I took Him at His word,
Forgiven, He lifted me.

Verse 3:
Now on a nobler plane I dwell,
And with my soul I know it's well;
Yet how or why I cannot tell,
He should have lifted me.
