Joy in the Lord

Description

In Nehemiah 8:10, God's people were cut to the heart when they heard from God's word as they realized how far short they had fallen from God's law and that they deserved His judgment. But Ezra encouraged them to "not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength." Though they heard about their failure, they also heard that God is "merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin." (Exodus 34:6-7). The prophet Zephaniah also encouraged God's people to rejoice: "Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away the judgments against you; he has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; you shall never again fear evil." (Zephaniah 3:14-15) The apostle Paul tells us "I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:12-13) Truly he learned how to apply the joy of the Lord to his everyday circumstances so that his soul was anchored in the Lord regardless of what he might face each day. O struggling saint, take courage for the joy of the Lord is offered to you freely, without measure or constraint, through faith in Christ. Let his strength meet your deepest needs!

Lyrics

Verse 1:
Joy in the morning, joy in the evening,
Joy in the journey, there's joy in the Lord.

Verse 2:
Joy in repentance, joy in His presence,
Joy in His steadfast love, there's joy in the Lord.

You know my struggles, You know my pain,
Your love surrounds me, You cover my shame.

Verse 3:
Joy in the weeping, joy in the dancing,
Joy in the emptiness, there's joy in the Lord.

You have compassion, You know my need,
Your promise is faithful, to come rescue me.

Verse 4:
Joy in my Savior, joy in His favor,
Joy through His victory, there's joy in the Lord.

Ending:
There's joy in the Lord, joy in the Lord.
(REPEAT)
Joy in the morning, joy in the evening,
Joy in the journey, there's joy in the Lord.
