Hidden in Christ

Description

Every human being is insecure, no matter how well they have hidden it from others or even from themselves by their extroversion. This is true because of what our representative of the entire race, Adam, did after the very first act of disobedience. As Genesis 3:8 says, "(Adam and Eve) heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden." We are all hiding, ultimately from God, and that hiding manifests itself in our earthly relationships. When faced with new relationships, who hasn't felt the twinge of fear that says "what if they really knew who I am... would they stay?" Jesus knew that feeling too, but not because of His own shame. He took upon himself the guilt and shame of humanity and experienced what it was like to have the person dearest to Him turn away in disgust - His heavenly Father, God Himself. He knows rejection like no one else and offers us a shelter from this rejection in unending, unconditional acceptance. All we must do is let go of our attempts to be presentable by ourselves; to come out of hiding and trust in His righteousness to cover our sin. And the results of this acceptance spider outwards from our inner being into our relationships. What if our churches could show this kind of grace? What a powerful witness to the accepting grace of God. Would you ask the Lord to help you to trust in Him and in others and be real about your true self? Though people cannot always be trusted to handle you with care, the Lord can; so run into His arms as you sing.

Lyrics

My thoughts rise against me, What if they all see
Who I am, will they run?
So I am in hiding, In darkness abiding,
Covered in Sunday best.
My insecurities paralyze me;
I know the gospel yet I am lonely.

My sins rose against Him, My secret life has been
Placed upon Christ the Lamb.
With my reputation He bore my rejection,
Perfect love overcame.
Though I was hidden well Jesus found me.
Acceptance and eager love now surround me.

Chorus:
Hidden in Christ, hidden above
Where I am known yet I am loved.
I am set free from shame,
He has called me by name.
Hidden in Christ I now have life.

Disguises continue, But what if we all knew
Who we are in the Lord?
We'd come out of hiding, Acceptance providing,
Perfect love casts out fear.
This is our true self now - we are treasured,
So let us show this grace without measure.
