Come for Me Again

Home » Original Songs » Modern Hymns

Christianity is a call to war. This war is not against flesh and blood however, but against spiritual forces of wickedness, both outside of ourselves but also within us as we battle remaining corruption. Christians have been saved from their sins, but final and full deliverance from its effects will not come until the final judgment. Until then, we struggle to put off the old self and put on the new. This is a song of struggle, a song about how we sometimes feel that we're losing the battle aginst certain sins, or that we simply feel numb and cold to the Lord even in light of the great love He continues to show us. The solution to our struggle is not to whisper a motivational statement to ourselves and simply put one foot in front of the other; it is to ask God to show His grace and love to us anew.... to come for us again, just like He did when we first became Christians. Jesus is uniquely able to draw near to us in this struggle because He knew it - though He did not sin, He experienced pain, fear, and abandonment, and has felt every effect of sin as we do. So run to Him today and ask Him to come to your rescue again.

Verse 1:
I've been here before, weary and sore;
I'm losing the fight for my soul.
I need You to come for my heart is numb,
I'm lost without You in control.
I'm sorry for my mess.
Come capture me with grace.

No matter how I stray
Your boundless love remains,
You washed away my every sin
And came for me by name;
You proved Your love for me
For there at Calvary
You gave Your Son to take my place
And show Your grace
So come for me again.

Verse 2:
My Savior was here, He knows pain and fear,
He traded His crown for a cross.
Though You turned away Your wrath didn't stay
For love conquered death through His loss.
I'm crucified with Christ
So raise me to new life.
