Nepali Worship Missions Trip - Support Needed

Home » Blog » General

Friends of Thousand Tongues, I (David) have an exciting missions and ministry opportunity to share with you, and for which to ask for your help/support.

This fall, I will have the privilege of traveling to Nepal to serve an organization called Wycliffe Bible Translators. If you're not familiar with this organization, it was founded in 1942 with the goal of translating the Bible into every language. Along with its primary mission of translation, it often performs various other religious and humanitarian functions such as helping to lead or found churches, preaching or teaching among remote people-groups, hosting conferences, or serving the poor and needy in various ways.

Why do I want to go?

Short answer - I'm convinced that God wants me to. Long answer - I've known a Wycliffe translator in Nepal and had the desire to visit and help him for years. I even offered to plan and lead a trip from my former church so that I could go a few years ago, but it wasn't the right time. Amazingly, a fully planned trip to Nepal was just dropped in my lap this year! Additionally, the required skills fit me to a tee-- they actually asked for people who have experience installing recording equipment, teaching on worship, music, and songwriting, and leading worship.

What will I be doing in Nepal?

Helping to build a recording studio, leading worship and music, preaching and teaching, giving away instruments, recording, learning, and possibly leading indigenous worship music, and any needed mercy or humanitarian work like construction.

When will I be going?

I don't want to specify the dates on a public website, but the trip will be some time this fall. I'll be happy to share the date with you personally.

Who is putting this trip together?

An organization called World Music Mission, which is a subsidiary of Artists in Christian Testimony, a non-profit "to and for artistic & innovative ministries and missionaries doing Christian work around the world."

What will the trip cost and how much do I need?

The team has estimated that the trip will cost each participant $2,780, 70% of which is airfare (I'm happy to share the breakdown of costs with you, just ask). I would like to remain in Nepal for additional ministry and the cost for this portion of the trip is unknown, but I'll estimate that it will cost approximately $700, making the total about $3,500. I will be happy to share what others have pledged and what my own sacrifices are personally; just ask. We must raise all of our support by October 1st.

Would you consider helping me as I seek to help the Nepali people and Nepali Christians in particular? Here are some ways that you can help:

  • Financially. Any amount helps. See the bottom of this message for how to give.

  • Through prayer. More detailed requests will come in time (and if you request it) but for now prayer for the finances, logistics like shots, and peaceful trust on my part for the finances would be appreciated.

  • Through friendly advice about missions trips. If you've gone to somewhere remote like Nepal and have some wisdom to share, I'm all ears. Just don't tell me to climb Everest!

  • By being committed to caring for my family while I'm gone. If you're in Nashville that might mean having them over, dropping by, or helping with meals.

How to Give

For those who can help financially your tax deductible gift can be made online or by sending a check made out to "World Music Mission/ACT Intl" (do not put my name on the check) and sent to me at my address: 3662 Montgomery Way, Smyrna, TN 37167.

Feel free to email me with any questions you might have. We will be posting at the WMM website and Facebook while we are in Nepal. It also may be encouraging to you to read through the experiences of prior teams at www.worldmusicmission.org.

The fine print (from WMM)

"All funds received for this trip are considered as gifts to World Music Mission/A.C.T. Intl and are tax deductible. While the gift you make will be credited to my portion of the funds required for the trip, in the event that I am unable to participate all monies raised will be used to offset the costs incurred for the trip or to fund ministries on the field where we are going to serve. Further, since my balance is due (2) weeks prior to date of departure, any donations received by WMM/ACT after that date may be applied to another later mission trip/project. Please do not decrease your normal giving to your home church in order to support this mission project."
